Following on from the previous article, Developing a Strategic Publication Plan: A Visual Survival Kit, defining how a strategic publication plan is developed, this article with its accompanying infographic provides guidance on the processes behind drafting and developing medical publications. We consider the roles and responsibilities of key stakeholders; best practices, and how to adhere to industry standards [including Good Publication Practice and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) guidelines]; a stepwise guide to tactical delivery; and the roles of publication and agency teams.

Taken together, these two articles cover the essential processes and practices behind publications planning. Maintaining the continuum between strategic planning and tactical delivery is key to successfully executing a publication plan and ensuring the effective dissemination of data to the right audience, in a timely manner, through the appropriate channels.
