ICMJE Issues Newly Updated Recommendations
The International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) issued a new, updated version of the ICMJE Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing, and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals on May 20, 2022.
The version includes three main updates related to:
- Reporting on race and ethnicity of study participants, as well as how the study sample is representative of the larger study population
- Results/data contained in assessment reports published by regulatory agencies should not be considered duplicate publication
Parallel Publication of Articles and Congress Presentations
The article titled “Parallel publication of articles and congress presentations for industry-sponsored research: strategies for success”1 was published in Current Medical Research and Opinion (CRMO) in May 2022. The article reports recommendations for successful parallel publication of articles and congress presentations based on insights from journal editors and congress officials and presents three case studies of successful parallel publication. Putting Plain Language Summaries into Perspective
The article titled “Putting plain language summaries into perspective”2 was published in Current Medical Research and Opinion (CRMO) in April 2022. Introducing the EMPIRE Index

Fifty-two (52) abstracts were accepted and presented at ISMPP’s 18th Annual Meeting, held May 9-11, 2022, in Washington, DC. Of these, 50 abstracts were poster presentations, and 2 were oral presentations. The abstracts cover many key industry topics, such as artificial intelligence, effective communication, social media, standards and guidelines, and equity, diversity, and inclusion.
