Learn from the scientific posters presented at the 2021 European Meeting of ISMPP in January and the 17th Annual Meeting of ISMPP in April. Thank you to the ISMPP members who presented posters/oral presentations this year! Find out about the first US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Notice of Noncompliance for failure to post clinical trial results on ClinicalTrials.gov, as well as an updated PRISMA Statement and a new CONSORT Extension.

FDA Issues Notice of Noncompliance for Lack of Posting Clinical Trial Results

The FDA issued a Notice of Noncompliance to Acceleron Pharma on April 27, 2021, for potential noncompliance with the requirement to submit clinical trial results information for posting on the ClinicalTrials.gov website. This is the first time the FDA has publicly raised the potential for civil monetary penalties and other regulatory actions, such as injunction and/or criminal prosecution, for violating the Final Rule for Clinical Trials Registration and Results Information Submission (42 CFR Part 11), which became effective in 2017. Read the FDA Statement for more information.

Updates Related to PRISMA Statement and CONSORT Extension

The PRISMA 2020 Statement: An Updated Guideline for Reporting Systematic Reviews was published in the journal Systematic Reviews on March 29, 2021. The PRISMA* 2020 statement replaces the PRISMA 2009 statement and includes a new checklist of 16 reporting items for systematic reviews.

CONSORT Extension for the Reporting of Randomised Controlled Trials Conducted Using Cohorts and Routinely Collected Data (CONSORT-ROUTINE): Checklist with Explanation and Elaboration was published in The BMJ on April 29, 2021. The extension covers key aspects of trials conducted using cohorts or routinely collected data that require specific reporting considerations and includes eight items modified from the CONSORT** Statement and five new items.

* PRISMA: Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses
** CONSORT: Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials
