Dear ISMPP Members,

We have been making great strides towards realizing our new ISMPP Strategic Plan, which was finalized at the ISMPP Annual Meeting in May this year.

The Strategic Plan sets out how to achieve our new vision, which is to become the leading global authority on the ethical and effective communication of medical research to inform treatment decisions. To expand our scope from publications to encompass broader communications within medical affairs and medical information, the Board of Trustees has agreed to establish a Medical Communication Task Force. This Task Force will bring together invited leaders from industry and agencies and be chaired by Kirsten Parr, At-Large Member, ISMPP Board of Trustees.

To deliver our mission of advancing the medical publication and communication professions globally, we are investing in geographic outreach. This month’s ISMPP West meeting was a great success, engaging new audiences in this region. It was good to see strong representation from biotech companies responsible for so much of the innovation driving our industry. Planning for the 2019 Asia Pacific Meeting in Tokyo, Japan, has begun, with additional meetings planned in China next year.

Furthering our goal of growing our professional alliances, we are delighted to confirm growth of our collaboration with PhactMI, with their presence at our upcoming 15th Annual Meeting being followed by our participation in their next meeting. We are also actively developing relationships in the Health Economics and Outcomes Research space.

As a membership organization, our success is dependent on the involvement and commitment of our members. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone in the Strategic Workgroup who helped us define our strategic goals, and all the members who are helping us to realize them. We continue to value your involvement, especially as we move towards the 15th Annual Meeting of ISMPP, and 10th year of the Certified Medical Publication Professional (CMPP) program – please stay tuned for announcements during 2019 to mark these occasions.

For now, if you have thoughts on the implementation of our Strategic Plan, or relationships that would be useful to share, please talk to us. As we look to the future, we look forward to hearing from you.

Your sincerely,

Chris Winchester, Chair, 2018-2019 ISMPP Board of Trustees
