Recently, a group of medical communication professionals, which included several ISMPP members, developed and submitted a preprint to PeerJ Preprints, a venue for early communication and feedback before peer review. The preprint, titled “Good Practice for Conference Abstracts and Presentations: GP-CAP,” endeavors to provide guidance and consistency around conference abstracts and presentations, particularly from company-sponsored research.
As noted by the authors, guidelines have not existed to describe good practice for research presented at scientific and medical conferences. The authors, therefore, developed the preprint publication by extending the principles of existing Good Publication Practice (GPP) guidelines (first published in 2003, and updated in 2010 and then in 2015 with GPP3) to “address challenges relating to the presentation of company-sponsored research at academic meetings.”
