Professional Medical Writing Support and Adherence to CONSORT for Abstracts Published in F1000Research

A publication titled, “Professional medical writing support and the reporting quality of randomized controlled trial abstracts among high-impact general medical journals,” was published in F1000Research, in September 2017. The publication reported on whether professional medical writing support was associated with improved adherence to Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT) for Abstracts. Click here to access the publication.

Interestingly, the study found that professional medical writing support was not associated with increased overall adherence to CONSORT for Abstracts; however, professional medical writing support improved the reporting of adverse events and funding source, among other elements. This article builds on previous publications that reported on whether professional medical writing support was associated with increased adherence to CONSORT for randomized controlled trial publications.

Publication authors included ISMPP members Ira Mills and Chris Winchester, and represented a collaborative effort across academia and industry (PAREXEL International, Oxford PharmaGenesis, and Ipsen Pharma). This study was previously presented at the 13th Annual Meeting of ISMPP, May 1-3, 2017.
